With Thanksgiving right around the corner, there are a lot of recipes that could go over depending on what your taste is; mashed potatoes, turkey, cranberry sauce, etc. But what about desserts? A popular, yummy treat to bake that is perfect for Thanksgiving is… (you’ve guessed it,) pumpkin pie!

Pumpkin pie has been around since the 1600’s. It’s a classical dish made of nutmeg and pumpkin spice, although it wasn’t always cooked in this form. Like always, time goes by and things change. The original pumpkin pie didn’t even have a crust! Instead, people carved out pumpkins and filled them with milk, honey, and other delicious ingredients. Then they would bake them in hot ashes, thus explaining the name, pumpkin pie.

After that brief little history lesson, I thought, why not give you a quick, easy, and yummy recipe for pumpkin pie? It fits the subject, is a fun lesson to learn, and will give you a quick snack on the way!

Start out with a ¾ cup of sugar in the mixing bowl

Then add in 1 ½ teaspoons (Lots of measuring and teaspoons in this recipe) of pumpkin spice

½ teaspoon of salt

A single can of 15 oz pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)

1 ¹⁄₁₄ cups of evaporated milk

2 Eggs (beaten, not regular!)

Preheat the oven to 425 deg. fahrenheit, After the ingredients are all mixed up, pour them into your pie crust (Homemade or bought, doesn’t matter as long as it tastes good). Reduce the oven’s temperature to 350 deg. fahrenheit and bake them for about 15 minutes. Keep in mind that every oven will have a slight difference in temperature! To check if it’s done, routinely insert a knife or toothpick into the center until it comes out clean (Wear oven mitts, please be safe!) Remember to cool it off afterwards when it’s done.
