Tensions Between Ukraine and Russia are Rising!

Ukraine’s Story

Introduction

Russian president Vladimir Putin says he has no intention of invading Ukraine, yet he has stationed over 120,000 Russian military personnel on the Ukraine border. This could be very dangerous for many people on both sides of this conflict, but where did it begin?

Where did the Conflict Begin?

Ukraine has always been close to Russia, Russian is one of the most spoken languages in Ukraine, and is a former Soviet republic. In 2014 Russian separatists invaded Ukraine, taking many people from Ukraine to Russia. This created tension between Russia and any countries inside the NATO group.

Why is Russia Trying to Invade?

NATO, is a group of around 30 countries across the globe that are  all allied together. Russia is not in NATO, and they are surrounded by multiple countries in NATO already. The United States is trying to push Ukraine into NATO, which would mean that Russia is surrounded by countries in NATO. Russia obviously doesn’t want this to happen, so they are allegedly planning to invade Ukraine depending on multiple different factors relating to the US, Ukraine, and NATO.

What would happen if Russia did invade?

Russia is a big influence to American economics, being the third largest supplier of petroleum to the United States. More importantly, the invasion would most likely result in a war. If Ukraine was to join NATO, they would be assisted by the other countries in NATO, including the U.S.

Here’s a full list of all the countries in NATO:  Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States.
