Sicily’s Book Corner

Hello! Welcome to the first book review article of the 2021-2022 school year! With everyone coming back from summer break and the library full of new books, I hope I can provide you with some new and interesting things to read.

The Hadley Academy For The Improbably Gifted: A Novel

                                                                       Author: Conor Grennan

Amazon star reviews say that this book is 4.5 out of 5 stars. I agree with that. Just a little warning before the review starts. This book mentions drug addiction at the beginning very briefly, and by very briefly I mean one of the characters’ parents struggle with it, but it’s only mentioned in one sentence. I think that this book is good because there are a lot of plot twists, and I mean a lot. Everything is very interconnected and in hindsight, the author leaves clues that lead to the plot twists, but they were subtle. It’s a pretty light-hearted book overall, and even though there isn’t a sequel out yet, the ending of the book promises that there will be one.

The Colossus Rises, Seven Wonders Book 1

                                                                          Author: Peter Lerangis

Amazon star reviews say that this book has 4.6 out of 5 stars. I think that that’s an appropriate review for the book. I thought the book was extremely good at incorporating the mystery of what was happening and the characters’ personalities. I thought the plot twists were good and I really liked the story. I have never read any stories like this one. It takes the 7 Wonders of the World and puts magic and fantasy in them, with a bit of sci-fi. It was extremely entertaining to read and it has a lot of suspense, as well as things that you think are over but then suddenly come back, and you’re left shocked.

                                                                    The Terrible Two, Book 1

By: Jory John and Mac Barnett

Amazon star reviews say that this book is 4.7 out of 5 stars. I agree with the rating of this book. I don’t usually read the humor genre, but this book was good. The jokes weren’t little kid humor, they were the kind that can be enjoyed by all ages. I laughed out loud multiple times. Also, there’s one plot twist I particularly liked. When you finish the book you want to read it again because the humor was funny and creative. If you want an easy, fun, and simple book to read, then I recommend you try this one.
