Red Ribbon Week and Emotional Support Dogs

Red Ribbon Week and Emotional Support Dogs

It’s Red Ribbon Week, which is a time to focus on how positive mental habits can help prevent negative ones such as doing drugs or other addictive substances. One thing that can be helpful to some people is emotional support animals, but these animals can also be very controversial in terms of whether or not they should be allowed into public spaces such as restaurants and airplanes and things like that.

The Controversy

The problem that people have is that they are worried about people faking emotional support animals to get into different places. This is because you can buy a vest for your pet, even if they are not an emotional support animal. People believe that these animals need to be very well behaved and super well trained. They believe that not just any animal can be an emotional support animal, and they are sometimes annoyed with how people will use this as an excuse to get pets into places where they may not be allowed. In multiple states, laws have been created that do not allow emotional support animals into no-pet areas such as restaurants.

The Supporters

People claim that they need support animals for their emotional well being. These people oftentimes suffer from anxiety or past trauma, and the animals are there to help them through it. These people believe that emotional support animals and mental health go hand in hand, and that people who are having a hard time deserve to have their animal with them to help out.
